Telecom Minister calls for conquering the world with merit
The Posts and Telecommunications Minister and one of the sponsors of Physics Olympiad, Mustafa Jabbar, said that the knowledge and talent of the students of Physics Olympiad should be used for the welfare of the people of the country in order to build Smart Bangladesh announced by the Honorable Prime Minister. He said, we have to prepare ourselves with meritorious work and move ahead with the goal of conquering the world.
Minister Mustafa Jabbar expressed his call while addressing as the Chief Guest at the 13th Physics Olympiad prize distribution ceremony at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of Dhaka University on 4th of March, 2023.
A popular children's writer, science fiction writer Professor Dr. Md. Zafar Iqbal and one of the founders of National Olympiad Professor Muhammad Kaykobad were present as special guests in the event. Among others, the former chairman of the physics department of Dhaka University, Prof. Sultana Sofi, the current chairman of the physics department, Prof. Dr. Supriya Saha and Dutch Bangla Bank DMD Ehtasimul Haque Khan and others were also present.
The valiant freedom fighter minister Mr. Mustafa Jabbar said, we have already started the work of building a smart Bangladesh with the hands of Sheikh Hasina. He said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started the trend of information technology development by giving importance to technical education and establishing Betbunia Geosatellite Center. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu in the development of information technology between 72 and 75, Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the development of information technology from 97 to 2001 and later from 2009 to 2023 have made a breakthrough in the history of the country.
Giving a statistic of the transformation that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has brought about in the information technology sector of Bangladesh through the implementation of Digital Bangladesh, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that in December 2008, the number of Internet users in Bangladesh was only 750,000. But today the number of internet users has reached 13 crores. In December 2008 we were using bandwidth of 8 Gbps and now on this day in 2023 we are using bandwidth of 4140 Gbps. The minister said that currently 18 crore people of Bangladesh are using mobile phones. We are currently producing 90 percent of the mobile phone demand in Bangladesh. Mobile phones manufactured in Bangladesh are now being exported to the developed world including America. Hopefully, our country is now exporting bandwidth to India. Some neighboring countries are requesting us to take bandwidth.
The minister said, we will take the information technology forward with the hands of the honorable Prime Minister.
Mustafa Jabbar also said that in order to create human civilization, they should be turned into human resources with skills and creativity. He said to the young students of Physics Olympiad, you have to advance the field of science and technology to turn people's suffering into people's strength. And I think those who are sitting in front of me are the best talented generation in the history of Bengal. The minister said that the students of today will build the smart Bangladesh of tomorrow. He urged the students participating in the Physics Olympiad to build a smart Bangladesh.
Dr. Zafar Iqbal encouraged the students who participated in the competition and said, "I did not get an award as a child." But after growing up, I am giving prizes to the winners”. He advised all contestants to read more books.
Dhaka University's former chairman of the Department of Physics. Sultana Safi said, winning the competition is a matter of great joy. But no one should give up. Efforts should be made to enter the international arena.
Anisul Haque, editor of Prothom Alo magazine Kishore Alo magazine, said that the work for the country will be done only if you can do your own work in the most beautiful way.
Bangladesh Olympiad Committee awarded crests and mementos to the winning students at the prize distribution ceremony. The organizing committee assured that the winning students will be given the opportunity to represent Bangladesh in the recently organized Olympiads at the international level in recognition of their outstanding merit.
